On October 26, more than one hundred quilts that have previously been on display at Red-Roxy Quilt Co. will be available for purchase between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m. Quilts include everything from table runners to full-size projects in a variety of colors and themes. All items are completed quilt projects that are ready to be taken home and put to use. The Quilts for a Cause event will take place at Red-Roxy Quilt Co. located at 804 Short Street in Decorah. Smokin' Monkee BBQ will be in the parking lot from 11 a.m. through dinner with a portion of their proceeds benefiting local nonprofits. All proceeds will be donated to local nonprofits selected by the Red-Roxy Quilt Co. staff. As you checkout, you will have the ability to determine which of the five nonprofits you would like to benefit from your quilt purchase. Sale proceeds will go directly to the following nonprofit organizations and causes: Decorah Police Department K9 Unit, Kickin' It Forward, United Way of Winneshiek County, Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office K9 Unit. The Decorah Police Department has recently revived its Police K9 Program. K9 Loki is our single-purpose narcotics detection dog, which is also trained in tracking, agility, and obedience. The Decorah Police K9 Program is available to assist all surrounding agencies and communities, and it is only with support from the public that this program is able to operate and effectively serve this community and others. Kickin It Forward, Inc. is a foundation providing financial relief to families facing medical emergencies within the community. Our goal is to use quality family activities, outreach, and public involvement to best serve the needs of families in the area. United Way of Winneshiek County is an all-volunteer organization that provides needed services to local residents of all ages and economic status by financially supporting sixteen nonprofit agencies that depend on United Way monies as an integral part of their budget. 100% of the funds raised during our annual Capital Campaign and related events are returned back to the community. The success of United Way depends on the businesses, individuals, community-oriented service organizations, and volunteer board members that offer their support annually. Currently, the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office has two K9 service dogs; K9 McCoy and K9 Drago. The Winneshiek County K9 Units continue to be a countywide resource available to all agencies and communities within the county and surrounding area. The K9s are specially trained to be of service in drug searches, tracking, and other general protection needs. The K9 Unit is primarily made possible by the generous support of the public (citizens, businesses, and organizations) within the area.
