Decorah High School Boys Swimming team takes fifth at 2023 Ram Relays

Decorah High School Boys Swimming showcased notable performances and finished fifth overall at the 2023 Ram Relays held on Dec. 2 at the Dubuque Community School District Aquatic Center hosted by Dubuque Hempstead High School. Coach Loran Storts is proud of the work the team is doing, especially with nearly half the team new this year. "I am proud of how hard the boys are working this season," Storts said. "We have increased the yardage this season, increased the intensity in practice, and chosen to compete against the best teams in the State in the early part of the season. Yes, we have some fast swimmers back from last season's team, yet 14 of our 30 swimmers are new to the team with a few individuals new to the sport of swimming. Daily, we are preaching the belief in delayed gratification....but it sure is fun to see some early 'fruits'." Storts continued, "Quite simply, our goal for this season is to put in the work, take care of our health (rest, recovery, nutrition), trust the process...and good things will happen!" Results Boys 200 Yard Medley Relay 9/10 Junior Varsity Securing a solid performance, Decorah claimed the 3rd position with a time of 2:23.53. The team featured Keaton Vobr, Kyan Offehadl, Spencer Chistensen, and Esteban Fernandez. Boys 200 Yard Medley Relay 9/10 Varsity Decorah took the 5th spot with a time of 1:59.27. The team featured Max Grimstad, Will Robinson, Kyle Pattison, and Ian Giddings. Boys 200 Yard Medley Relay Junior Varsity In a steady display of skill, Decorah notched the 4th position with a time of 2:15.40. The team featured Jack Sovern, Phuong Doan, Nathaniel Roberts, and Thomas Hammel. Boys 200 Yard Medley Relay Varsity In a competitive display, Decorah landed in the 2nd spot, clocking in at 1:43.26. The team featured Isaac Knaack, Mason Cote, Somon Kutz, and Dylan Hogan. Boys 600 Yard Free Relay Junior Varsity In the middle of the pack, Decorah landed in 4th place with a time of 7:24.68. The team featured Oliver Brummel, Dalton Elickson, and Thomas Hammel. Boys 600 Yard Free Relay Varsity Maintaining a steady stride, Decorah took the 4th spot with a time of 6:12.12. The team featured Dom Bigalk, Mason Cote, and Max Grimstad. Boys 400 Yard Medley Relay Junior Varsity Decorah landed in 3rd place with a time of 5:21.64. The team featured Landyn Hook and Ethan Casper. Boys 400 Yard Medley Relay Varsity Decorah took the 6th spot with a time of 5:22.95. The team featured Will Robinson and Keaton Vobr. Boys 200 Yard Free Relay 9/10 Junior Varsity Taking the lead with finesse, Decorah secured the 1st place with a swift time of 2:01.33. The team featured Spencer Chistensen, Eli Sassaman, Esteban Fernandez, and Kyan Offehadl. Boys 200 Yard Free Relay 9/10 Varsity Decorah notched the 4th spot with a time of 1:48.93. The team featured Ian Giddings, Oliver Bolinger, Ashton Saltou, and Kyle Pattison. Boys 200 Yard Free Relay Junior Varsity Decorah earned the 4th spot with a time of 2:12.57. The team featured Aitor Cuevas, Andrew Olson, Garrett Willie, and Thomas Hammel. Boys 200 Yard Free Relay Varsity Decorah earned the 4th spot with a time of 1:34.93. The team featured Dom Bigalk, Somon Kutz, Reid Kuehner, and Dylan Hogan. Boys 300 Yard Fly Relay Varsity Decorah landed in the 4th spot with a time of 3:29.26. The team featured Somon Kutz, Dalton Elickson, and Nathaniel Roberts. Boys 1000 Yard Free Relay Junior Varsity Decorah settled into the 4th spot with a time of 14:30.46. The team featured Oliver Brummel and Keaton Vobr. Boys 1000 Yard Free Relay Varsity Decorah claimed the 4th spot with a time of 11:57.41. The team featured Dom Bigalk and Max Grimstad. Boys 300 Yard Back Relay Junior Varsity Taking the 3rd spot, Decorah clocked in at 3:54.55. The team featured Davis Copolla, Landyn Hook, and Jack Sovern. Boys 300 Yard Back Relay Varsity With a time of 3:08.38, Decorah secured the 5th position. The team featured Isaac Knaack, Ethan Casper, and Mason Cote. Boys 300 Yard Breast Relay Junior Varsity Decorah took the 4th spot at 4:49.72. The team featured Kyan Offehadl, Dalton Elickson, and Phuong Doan. Boys 300 Yard Breast Relay Varsity Decorah claimed the 6th position at 3:51.50. The team featured Reid Kuehner, Will Robinson, and Andrew Olson. Boys 400 Yard Free Relay 9/10 Junior Varsity In a strong showing, DEC A secured the 2nd position with a time of 4:41.93. Spencer Chistensen, Eli Sassaman, Esteban Fernandez, and Ashton Saltou combined forces for an impressive performance. Boys 400 Yard Free Relay 9/10 Varsity Facing a disqualification (DQ), Decorah, represented by Max Grimstad, Kyle Pattison, Oliver Bolinger, and Ian Giddings, experienced a setback in the 9/10 Varsity category. Boys 400 Yard Free Relay Junior Varsity At 4:17.61, Decorah took the 4th spot. The team featured Nathaniel Roberts, Aitor Cuevas, Davis Copolla, and Reid Kuehner. Boys 400 Yard Free Relay Varsity Securing the 3rd spot with a time of 3:28.40, Decorah, led by Isaac Knaack, Somon Kutz, Mason Cote, and Dylan Hogan ended the meet on a high note. The Decorah Boys Swimming team next competes at the Marcussen Invitational at Holmes Junior High School Pool in Cedar Falls on Saturday, Dec. 9, beginning at 11.30 a.m.
