Changes to Electronic and Appliance Disposal

DECORAH -- Winneshiek County Recycling Center and Winneshiek County Landfill announced changes to electronics and appliance disposal. Starting Monday, April 1st, residents are advised to bring their old electronics and appliances to the Winneshiek County Recycling Center located in Freeport. The Winneshiek County Landfill will no longer be accepting TVs, computer monitors, or appliances. "This new initiative aims to simplify the e-waste collection process for the public, " said Evan Neubauer of Winneshiek County Conservation. "Rather than taking some e-waste to the recycling center and other units to the landfill, all these items will be accepted at one location." A $20 fee per unit applies for any TVs, computer monitors, or appliances containing freon that are taken to the recycling center. Payments must be made in cash or check only, and cash transactions should be for the exact amount owed. These items may be dropped off during business hours 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Neubauer said to enter the facility through the pedestrian door on the right side of the large dock door and one of the staff members will assist you.
