David Amdahl to Speak: "St. Olav and his Cathedral, Nidaros."

DECORAH -- The Sons of Norway Valdres Lodge announced that their meeting on Tuesday, April 16 features a presentation by David Amdahl, member and treasurer of the local Sons of Norway Lodge, and son of a Norwegian immigrant. The topic for his address is "St. Olav and his Cathedral, Nidaros." He will speak about the life of St. Olav and about the fabulous Nidaros Cathedral, located in Trondheim, Norway. Included in his talk will be the rise, fall, and reconstruction of this largest church in Northern Europe. He will also look at the 2014, six-million-dollar, reconstruction of the Steinmeyer organ originally installed in 1930 and will address cathedral life today. David Amdahl is the son of a Norwegian immigrant. His father, Olaf, came from the Stavanger area to North Central Iowa in 1927. He and his wife Jill are also the parents of an emigrant as their daughter, Staci, moved to Trondheim, Norway, in 2008 and lives there with her Norwegian husband and family. David spent most of his working life in the farm equipment industry, the last fifteen at Northeast Iowa Community College teaching Agricultural Equipment Technology. Since retirement in 2005 he has spent time volunteering as a guide at Vesterheim as well as visiting family and grandchildren in Norway. His last visit to Norway was his seventeenth. The presentation begins at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 701 Iowa Avenue, Decorah. This event is preceded by a lodge meeting at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend; you do not need to be of Norwegian ancestry. Refreshments follow the presentation.
