Administrative Law Judge Upholds Decision to Terminate NICC's Dr. Riedel

From Monday, March 25 through Wednesday, March 27, a private hearing was held regarding the proposed termination of Dr. Herbert Riedel's employment contract with Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC). This hearing was held at the Wallace State Office Building in Des Moines, Iowa before a neutral and impartial Administrative Law Judge (ALJ). The conditions of the hearing were agreed upon by all parties. On Monday, May 20, the Administrative Law Judge issued a decision. This decision affirms the termination of Dr. Herbert Riedel and found that just cause supported the NICC Board of Trustees decision to terminate Dr. Riedel. The grounds asserted for just cause termination included failure to make satisfactory improvement in areas of expectations included in the evaluation and performance action plan, specifically identified as: Build and sustain trust with all stakeholders and particularly with members of the leadership team and all staff levels. Build and sustain an open, respectful and diplomatic relationship and reputation among staff and students Improve communication with and develop and strengthen bonds with community partners. Pursuant to Iowa Code section 279.24, Dr. Riedel has 30 days to appeal the Administrative Law Judge's decision to the NICC Board of Trustees for reconsideration and review. Stay ahead of the curve!
