Decorah Hires New Varsity Girls Basketball Coach

Decorah High School is pleased to announce the hiring of Blake Moen as Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach, pending school board approval. Moen will replace Shannon Quandahl, who resigned after 14 years in the program and 8 as the head coach. Moen has returned to coaching basketball after serving as the Head Boys Basketball Coach at South Winneshiek from 2017 to 2021. During that time, he lead the Warriors to a 60-32 record, highlighted by a state basketball tournament appearance in 2021. This is not his first time coaching in the disctirct. Moen served as 9th grade boys basketball Coach for Decorah High School from 2013 to 2016. Moen himself graduated from Decorah High School in 2012. During his time at the school, he participated in football, basketball and baseball. His coaching career began while a student at Luther, taking on various student assistant and later full-time assistant roles for both the football and baseball programs. "I am absolutely honored and privileged for the opportunity to lead the Decorah High School Girls Basketball Program. I hope to continue to build upon the past successes established by Coach Quandahl and previous coaches, while also bringing enthusiasm and passion to our team, coaches and entire program," Moen said of his hire. "I am most excited to continue to use basketball as a way to strive towards our ultimate goal at Decorah High School: to help our girls become successful adults in whatever they choose to do with their lives."
