IOWA CITY — The Decorah Boys Tennis Team faced off in the State Quarterfinals last Thursday, May 30. Despite showing a good effort at the Iowa City competition, they fell short in the first round to eventual runner-up Xavier with a final score of 5-1. A standout performance came from Caden Branum, who secured the lone victory for the team. The day showcased a display of skill and determination from all the players, with each match tightly contested. Aidan Nalean-Carlson notably pushed his opponent to 6-4, 6-4 sets. Only a few points ultimately deciding the outcome. Seth Bolson delivered his best performance of the season at number 6, concluding his career on a high note. Newcomer Tristan Hunter also demonstrated promise, pushing his opponent to a 6-4 finish in the second set before experience prevailed. Keaton Nalean-Carlson forced his opponent into a tie-breaker in the first set. This was his first season as a sophomore following an injury last year. Reflecting on the competition, the team acknowledged the support of their fans throughout the season, expressing gratitude for their unwavering encouragement. "Looking ahead, the team finds inspiration in their performance, [and are] determined to carry the momentum into the summer and beyond," Coach Matt Anderson emphasized.
