Eagle Fledglings Adapt to Toppled Nest

DECORAH — Following the collapse of the Raptor Resource Project's north nest due to this weekend's heavy rainfall and pre-existing tree deterioration, the local Eagle Cam has been inundated with questions about the fledgling eagles that previously called the nest home. "While the north nest's fall was pretty dramatic, it's not that uncommon for nests to fall," reads the project's latest update on the status of the nest. The Raptor Resource Project reassured the public about the well-being of the fledglings, DN17 and DN18, noting their survival instincts. "Eagles are very adaptable, which makes them well-prepared for life's many uncertainties. DN17 and DN18 are learning about life beyond the nest more abruptly than we are used to, but both are doing well! We've seen them flying, eating, perching on logs and tree branches and getting into food fights," the organization reported. The group continues to monitor the eagle family through camera, describing the method as the least invasive and best option. Regarding the future of the nest, the group stated they will "have a better idea in another month or two." of a new nest location. In the meantime, they plan to survey the area for a potential starter nest once DN17 and DN18 are more mobile. Most eaglets do not venture more than a mile from the nest during their first month post-fledge.
