Walden Pond Trail Exploration

CASTALIA, Iowa — Join the Winneshiek County Conservation staff on Saturday, June 29 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. for trail exploration at Walden Pond. Walden Pond is located at 1432 130th Ave. in Castalia, Iowa. Walden Pond is a reservation-only park, specifically designated for educational programs. The park is currently undergoing repairs, and fishing is not recommended. Instead, each Open Park Day will include a free family-friendly activity for all park-goers. On June 29, the activity is a "Bird-Watching Blitz." Participants will grab a scavenger hunt card from staff at the park and try to spot all 9 hidden bird cutouts in the park. For a greater challenge, make a list of every real bird spotted while exploring. Restrooms are available onsite near the enclosed shelter downhill from the parking lot. There are no trash cans at the park. Please pack out all of your waste and leave the park cleaner than you found it. Pets are welcome, but must be on a leash, all pet waste must be cleaned up.
