Decorah's offense fell flat against a strong Waterloo West team, resulting in an 8-0 defeat on Tuesday, July 9. Despite a solid effort on the mound from Kaden Alstad and Fisher Tweten, Decorah struggled to generate any offensive momentum. Alstad pitched two innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits, while Tweten pitched the remaining four innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on four hits and three walks. Decorah managed just three hits throughout the game, with Kaden Alstad, Trevor Kuennen and Kelley Gates each contributing one. Unfortunately, Waterloo West's pitching staff proved too dominant, with starter Talan Nelson allowing only two hits over four innings, striking out five. Relievers Oliver Beckman and Brady Dean combined for the remaining three innings, giving up only one hit and striking out four more batters. Waterloo West took an early lead with three runs in the first inning, adding three more in the fourth. Decorah's defense committed two errors, one each by Caleb Meyer and Brayden Hartl, which contributed to the unearned runs. Despite the loss, the Vikings showed flashes of potential. Alstad and Tweten struck out a combined five batters, and Gates' double was a highlight in an otherwise challenging game.
