DECORAH — The Decorah girls' swim team faced off against Cedar Rapids Kennedy on Tuesday at the Luther College aquatics center on September 17. Despite several strong individual performances, Cedar Rapids Kennedy was a well-rounded team with high placements in several events, ending with a final score of 111 to Decorah's 72. The meet started with the 200-yard medley relay. Decorah's first lineup consisted of Bella Sailor, Jenna Schissel, Liz Bucksa, and Grace Baker, who finished just shy of first place with a time of 2:01.04. Cedar Rapids Kennedy edged them out with a time of 2:00.19. The 50-yard freestyle saw a strong performance from Liz Bucksa. Bucksa finished second with a time of 26.23, trailing behind Cedar Rapids Kennedy's Lilly Anctil, who took first place with a time of 25.95. Grace Baker also had a notable time, securing third place with a time of 27.22. The diving events saw Decorah's Ava Carolan shine, taking first place with a score of 127.55. Teammate Isis Timm followed in third with 70.35 points. In the 100-yard freestyle, Bucksa continued her impressive performance by winning the event with a time of 55.82.Jenna Schissel led Decorah in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing first with a time of 1:17.06. Avalea Burns also contributed with a fourth-place finish at 1:19.37. The 200- and 400-yard freestyle relay concluded the evening. Cedar Rapids Kennedy's team secured first place in the shorter event, with a time of 1:52.18. Meanwhile, Grace Baker, Bridget Bentley, Reagan Lubahn and McKenzie Tollefson, placed second with a time of 2:03.26. The Vikings finished the meet on a high with a second place win in the 400-yard freestyle relay. This win, thanks to the unstoppable forces of Liz Bucksa, Bella Sailor, Grace Baker and Jenna Schissel, earned the team four points to their final score. Stay informed, stay inspired!
