Winneshiek County Votes: National, State, and Local Results Roll In

DECORAH — Polls have now closed across the country, and early results are beginning to trickle in, offering a first glimpse at voter turnout and preliminary counts in races both locally and nationally. While local contests are shaping up with early leads for some candidates, the national picture remains unsettled, with no definitive call yet for major races at the top of the ticket. Here are the results for Winneshiek County, as shared by the Auditor's Office of votes cast by members of the 12 reporting precincts. Of the 15,194 registered voters, 7,381 of the ballots submitted (48.58%) were submitted in absentee or through early voting. A total of 12,075 (79.47%) voters cast their ballots out of 15,194 registered voters. Iowa amendment one, which requires citizenship to vote and modifies the voting age to allow 17-year-olds who will be 18 years old by the next general election to vote in the primary election, received a "yes" vote count of 74.70% (8,163) and a "no" vote count of 25.30% (2,764) Iowa amendment two, which modifies gubernatorial succession and clarifies the role of the lieutenant governor in the line of succession,recieved a "yes" vote count of 81.33% (8,724) and a "no" vote count of 18.67% (2,003). The Decorah School District bond referendum, which sets the $38 million general obligation bond to fund the construction of a new elementary school, required a 60% approval figure to pass. The referendum received a "yes" vote count of 66.73% (5,087) and a "no" vote count of 33.27% (2,536). Measures approving the construction previously passed on September 10 during a special election.
