Decorah Secures Thrilling 46-40 Victory Over Hudson

DECORAH — The Decorah girls' basketball team returned to action after the holiday break with a hard-fought 46-40 victory over Hudson on Friday, January 3, 2025. The varsity matchup, held at Decorah High School at 6:45 p.m., took the home crowd on a rollercoaster as they rallied from a halftime deficit to secure the big win. The Vikings started the game strong, taking a 12-8 lead after the first quarter. Hudson responded in the second, outscoring Decorah. The Pirates headed into halftime with a 20-17 advantage. Refocused and determined, the Vikings came out of the break with a dominant third-quarter performance, outscoring Hudson 17-5 to reclaim a 34-25 lead. Despite a late surge by Hudson, Decorah held firm in the final minutes to clinch the victory. Sydney Thompson led the charge for the Viking recovery, scoring a game-high 17 points and pulling down three rebounds. Claire Storhoff was a force on both ends of the court, contributing nine points. Brooklyn Fromm added eight points, five rebounds, and two assists to the Vikings' effort, while Gracie Tangen recorded four points and four rebounds. Renae Wilson and Clara Hjelle each added three points. After the game, the coaching staff commended the team's effort and composure. "[This was a] Huge win after Christmas Break against a high-quality Hudson team. Our girls continue to show outstanding fight, that our staff knows we have in them," said Coach Moen. "After the first half tonight, we regrouped and stuck together to put on an excellent second half." "I love seeing this group play, grow, and get better from game to game," Moen added.
