WINNESHIEK COUNTY, Iowa—The local Winneshiek County Pheasants Forever Chapter is recognized at a national level as one of the best chapters for implementing conservation practices. The annual chapter banquet—set for Saturday, April 5 at Pinter's Gardens & Pumpkins—is an essential funding mechanism for the land management, conservation work, and cost share that is carried out throughout the next year. More than 400 people are expected to attend the event, which includes a prime rib supper catered by U2BBQ, games for youth and adults, and expansive live and silent auctions featuring local art, guns, kayaks, furniture, and custom-crafted items. All of the money raised at the banquet event stays local. The Board of Directors takes pride in the local chapter's work, which not only benefits pheasant populations but also provides a wide range of additional advantages. The chapter supports plantings of native grasses and flower mixes, which are more costly and require extra coordination. However, these modifications help extend the pollinator season, enhance biodiversity, and improve habitats for all wildlife species. Additionally, the plantings establish deep roots that effectively anchor the soil, helping to slow water runoff—an important factor for water quality and flood management. 2025 marks the 39th year for the local chapter and for the first time, the banquet registration is available online.
