The Decorah Girls Tennis team wrapped up their 2025 regular season with a dominant performance in their final meet. For the first time, the Vikings faced off against the Mason City Riverhawks, a member of the Alliance Conference. The Riverhawks follow a meet format featuring six varsity singles and five varsity doubles matches. Decorah swept the varsity competition 11-0, with especially commanding performances from Olivia Huinker (#1 singles) and Grace Huinker (#3 singles), who both won their matches 6-0, 6-0. The #4 doubles team of Addison Maki and Dylin Thompson also delivered a flawless victory, winning 6-0, 6-0. The junior varsity squad had a strong showing as well, finishing 6-1 in singles and sweeping the doubles matches 6-0. "This was such a fun meet for our team," said Coach Huinker. "I was especially happy that our JV players got so many matches in—they've worked hard all season, but court availability sometimes limits their chances to compete. Watching them succeed today was really rewarding. Our varsity girls also played well. Each of them is focused on individual goals and strategies as we prepare for the postseason, and tonight gave them a great chance to test those under match pressure. We're excited for what lies ahead." Next up for Decorah is the Regional Individual State Qualifier, taking place Monday at Luther College. Jaidyn Duvel and Klaara Short will compete in singles. Representing Decorah in doubles will be Olivia and Grace Huinker, along with the duo of Kaitlyn Bjork and Leah Holland. The Vikings will begin Regional Team play on Friday, May 12.
