LANSING — The Iowa Department of Transportation has reopened the Iowa 9/Wisconsin 82 bridge connecting Lansing, Iowa, and Crawford County, Wisconsin, to vehicle traffic as of 10 a.m. today, Monday, June 9. The bridge had been closed since May 17 due to safety sensor alerts. After a thorough inspection, Iowa DOT confirmed the bridge is safe to carry traffic under the previous weight and size restrictions. Continuous monitoring will remain in place to ensure public safety. A new Mississippi River bridge is currently under construction alongside the existing structure. To accommodate construction activities, Iowa DOT plans another temporary closure of the existing bridge later this summer. The bridge will remain open at least through the July 4 holiday weekend. Any future closures will be announced at least one week in advance through local media, Iowa DOT's project webpage, social media, and the 511 traveler information system. In the meantime, Iowa DOT continues to offer a free shuttle and water taxi service Monday through Saturday. This service provides vehicle parking at Lansing City Hall (Iowa) and the De Soto Community Center (Wisconsin), with shuttles transporting passengers to river landings for the water taxi crossing. The service operates from early morning until late afternoon and offers a scenic, peaceful alternative for crossing the river.
