Decorah High School Weight Room to Receive New Equipment, Fresh Coat of Paint

DECORAH — The Decorah High School weight room is getting a facelift this summer, as staff and volunteers have cleared out old equipment to make way for the new. Volunteers also repainted the room, giving it a new, fresh feel. According to Activities Director Adam Riley, "Highlights of this project will include 15 new training stations with new weights, benches and supporting equipment. This is an increase from 12 stations, which will help accommodate increased usage of the room for both our strength and conditioning classes as well as morning and evening training sessions [for athletes]. New flooring and signage in the room will also be part of the project." It's a condition of the modern sporting era: students often begin weight training at earlier stages of their athletic experiences, some even starting as early as middle school. Recognizing the growing demand and importance of updated facilities, several local organizations stepped in to support the project. Financial backing came from the Decorah Viking Athletic Booster Club, Brynsaas Sales and Service, Decorah Bank & Trust, Olson Explosives Inc. (Mark and Jenny Olson), Toppling Goliath and Wicks Construction. The upgrades have allowed the school to purchase new equipment from Dynamic Fitness, based in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. While the weight room is under construction, Luther College has graciously hosted high school athletes at the Luther Legends Fitness Center. For those interested in purchasing the old equipment, a sale will be held later this summer featuring racks, benches and weights. More details will be announced in the coming weeks.
