All groups are open to the public and newcomers are encouraged to attend. Those interested should call the library at 563-382-3717 to learn more or to reserve a copy of the book. To join any of the groups' email lists, contact ktorresdal@decorahlibrary.org. Multiple copy sets are generously provided by Friends of Decorah Public Library. Happy Hour Book Group The Happy Hour Book Group will meet at Pulpit Rock Brewing Co. on Wednesday, July 9, at 5:15 p.m. to discuss The Mighty Red by Louise Erdrich, a novel set in North Dakota's Red River Valley that explores love, longing, and complicated relationships. History Book Group The History Book Group will meet on the second floor of the library on Thursday, July 17, at 3 p.m. to discuss the second half of John Lewis: A Life by David Greenberg, a biography chronicling Lewis's congressional career and civil rights legacy. Friday Book Group The Friday Book Group will meet on the second floor of the library on Friday, July 18, at 2 p.m. (note date change) to discuss Isola by Allegra Goodman, a historical novel inspired by a 16th-century woman's fight for survival after being abandoned on a remote island. Speculative Short Fiction Group This group will meet via Zoom on Wednesday, July 23, at 6 p.m. to discuss Terrace Story by Hilary Leichter, a surreal story about a mysterious extra room that alters a family's reality. Speculative Fiction Book Group Following at approximately 6:30 p.m. via the same Zoom link, this group will discuss The City in Glass by Nghi Vo, a fantasy novel where magic and memory intertwine in a fractured world.
