DECORAH — Author Daria Lavelle will discuss her debut novel, "Aftertaste," in conversation with Sarah Krammen of the Oneota Valley Literary Foundation on Saturday, June 28, at 11 a.m. at T-Bock's Upstairs, 206 W. Water St. The free event will include a book signing and is sponsored by the Oneota Valley Literary Foundation, with support from T-Bock's and Dragonfly Books. "Aftertaste" is a genre-blending debut that weaves together a ghost story, culinary drama, and love story. It follows Konstantin Duhovny, a chef who can taste the presence of ghosts through the foods they once loved. As he channels this gift to reunite the grieving with their departed in New York's intense restaurant scene, Kostya finds himself unraveling. "We're thrilled to welcome Daria Lavelle to Decorah as part of her national—and international—tour. Aftertaste is an astonishing debut: sharply observed, emotionally layered, and absolutely unforgettable. The fact that film rights were snapped up before the book even hit shelves speaks volumes about the quality of her work. With stops in major cities from New York to San Francisco—and even London—Decorah's place on her tour is no small thing. Lavelle, born in Kyiv and raised in the New York metro area, writes fiction exploring identity and belonging through elements of the uncanny. Her short stories have appeared in Dark Matter, The Deadlands, and Dread Machine, and she holds degrees from Princeton and Sarah Lawrence.
