DECORAH — The City of Decorah will soon begin a comprehensive project to replace all water meters located within city limits. To facilitate this upgrade, residents will be receiving a letter from HydroCorp, the company contracted to perform the replacements, with instructions on how to schedule an appointment. Scheduling Your Appointment Residents can schedule their water meter replacement appointment by either calling HydroCorp at 800-315-4305 or visiting www.watermeterinstall.com and entering the code provided in the letter they receive. Important Information About the Water Meter Replacement: There is no cost to residents for the replacement of their water meter. HydroCorp technicians will be easily identifiable, wearing official HydroCorp uniforms and carrying HydroCorp photo ID badges. A property owner or an adult representative (age 18 or older) must be present during the meter replacement. Pets must be secured during the technician's visit. Ensure your current water meter is clear and accessible before your appointment. Meters are typically located in the basement or lowest level of the home, often near the water heater or water softener. Shut-off Valve Requirements: The technician will need to operate the home's water shut-off valves in order to remove and replace the meter. Property owners are responsible for ensuring that these valves are fully operable prior to the appointment. If a valve is found to be leaking or fails during the process, it is the homeowner's responsibility to repair or replace the valve. In cases where a meter cannot be safely accessed or removed due to deteriorated valves or obstructions, the appointment will be rescheduled after the necessary repairs have been made by the property owner.
