DECORAH — On Saturday, June 28, Pulpit Rock Brewing Company (PRBC) held its third annual Dreaming of Fields Day, celebrating its ongoing Dreaming of Fields Project. Since launching in 2019, the initiative has supported local farmers, promoted land stewardship, and fostered market development for small grain production in Northeast Iowa. The day-long event drew a lively crowd and featured live music from The Grass Run Band, educational displays, and hands-on activities focused on soil regeneration and sustainable agriculture. Attendees enjoyed three specialty beers brewed just for the occasion: Honest Work, a premium corn lager; Upper Iowa Common, a Kentucky Common-style ale; and New Day, an agrarian ale. All beers highlighted locally grown grains, including corn from FLOLO Farm near West Union and a heritage Ukrainian wheat variety. "These beers are special to us due to their grist composition including grain from local Iowa & Midwest growers who practice regenerative agriculture," the PRBC team shared. "By using heirloom grains and incorporating them into our beer, we not only support local farmers doing great things for the land, but are able to produce a yummy product with hyperlocal ingredients. Not something you see every day!" Guests also enjoyed food from The Landing Market, with a menu that included loose meat sandwiches made with Luna Valley Farm beef and steamed in Pulpit Rock beer, lovingly called "Pete-rites" after the brewery owner. The PRBC team extended their thanks to those who supported the event. "Our Dreaming of Fields project brings awareness to the connections between responsible farming practices, soil and water health, general conservation, and the products that can be produced because of these efforts. Thank you for being a part of celebrating so many people doing such great stewardship for our land!" The event was free and open to the public, thanks to strong community support and partnerships. Supporting organizations included Northeast Iowa RC&D, The Landing Market, and the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce's Agriculture Committee. Sponsors included Iowa's Coldwater Conservancy, Winneshiek Soil and Water Conservation District and Trout Unlimited's Driftless Area Restoration Effort (TUDARE). As Pulpit Rock Brewing approaches its 10th anniversary this August, the successful turnout at Dreaming of Fields Day reinforces the brewery's reputation as a community-driven destination for craft beer and sustainable practices.
