On July 1 2025, A Hyundai SUV driven by Rachel Hoffland, 64, of Decorah, was driving westbound on 360th street near the intersection of 198th Avenue. The intersection is marked with stop signs to stop east and westbound traffic at the intersection. Dalton Zidlicky, 20, of Decorah, driving a a large, three axle straight truck with a forage box was traveling southbound on 198th Avenue, with no posted stop signs. Hoffland did not stop completely at the posted stop sign, and continued through the intersection without looking for oncoming traffic. Zidlicky saw the vehicle enter the intersection, but due to the size of the truck, the close distance of the units, and the gravel road, he was unable to stop before striking the passenger rear quarter panel of the SUV. The truck came to a stop on 198th avenue south of the intersection, and unit one was pushed into the southwest corner ditch of the intersection, coming to rest on its drivers side. Hoffland was able to be extricated by opening the rear hatch of the vehicle and crawling through the cabin of the vehicle, out of the hatch. The SUV sustained vehicle totaling damage, Zidlinky's vehicle sustained a bent bumper and had antifreeze leaking from an unknown location. The Hyundai was towed away by Don's Towing, but the truck was able to be driven away. Hoffland was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield right of way. Knowledge is power!
