DECORAH — Minnesota author Frank Bures will return to Decorah for an author presentation and Q&A session, followed by a book signing, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, in the Pulpit Rock Brewing events room, 207 College Drive, Decorah. The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Oneota Valley Literary Foundation, with support from Pulpit Rock Brewing and Dragonfly Books. What drives people to test their limits on the water? Is it the thrill of adventure, the pull of history or the simple joy of paddling into the unknown? In "Pushing the River," award-winning writer Frank Bures explores the triumphs and dangers of life on the water through gripping true stories. From a harrowing escape from the 2011 Pagami Creek Fire to a long-lost canoe race that shaped modern paddling, Bures captures the river's power to challenge, inspire and transform. With tales of resilience, rivalry and mystery stretching from the Boundary Waters to the Mississippi, the book offers a deep look into the rhythm of the river and the adventures it holds. Bures is a writer whose work has appeared in Harper's, Outside, The Atlantic and other publications. His stories have been featured in "The Best American Travel Writing" anthologies and have received multiple awards. He is the author of "The Geography of Madness," editor of Under Purple Skies, and producer of audio history tours for VoiceMap. Bures grew up along the Mississippi River in Winona, Minnesota, and now lives in Minneapolis.
