Auditions for the New Minowa Players' 2025 Creative Venture, "An Iliad," will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 19, and Sunday, July 20, at the New Minowa Players Theatre, 906 S. Mill St., Decorah. Those auditioning are welcome to come as able during these times, with a prepared monologue to perform. There will also be a cold reading of selections from the script, determined at the audition Audition sign-up is available here. "An Iliad" is a timely and gripping retelling of Homer's epic tale, illuminating the human cost of conflict. The Poet—the sole character in this one-person saga—recounts a tale of war, hubris and destruction that crashes into our present day. The setting is simple: an empty theater. The time is now. The lone figure onstage is a storyteller—possibly Homer, possibly one of the many bards who followed in his footsteps. This one-actor show marks an exciting debut on the NMP stage and is the company's first solo production. Two individual actors will be cast to alternate performance nights. All individuals age 18 and older are welcome to audition, regardless of gender identity or expression. Rehearsals will begin the week of July 21, with the schedule to be determined based on performer availability. Performance dates are Nov. 6–9, with evening performances at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday.
