Decorah Municipal Pool Closed for Season Following Safety Incident

DECORAH — The Decorah Parks and Recreation Department announced that the Decorah Municipal Pool will remain closed for the rest of the 2025 season after glass was found in the facility on the evening of Thursday, Aug. 7. Staff discovered glass at the bottom of the pool, in the gutters, and on the pool deck, prompting an immediate closure. Because of the time and care needed to fully drain, clean, remove debris, refill and rebalance the pool for safe use, officials said the pool could not reopen before the season ends. "The safety of our patrons is our number one priority," the department said in a statement. "We appreciate the community's patience and understanding as we address this situation." While the pool is closed, Adult Lap Swim and Adult Aquacise programs will be temporarily relocated to Luther College Pool on the following dates: Aug. 12–15 • 6–7 a.m. — Adult Lap Swim • 11 a.m.–1 p.m. — Adult Lap Swim (Aquacise class at noon) Aug. 18–22 • 7–9 a.m. — Adult Lap Swim • 11 a.m.–1 p.m. — Adult Lap Swim (Aquacise class at noon) Participants should enter and exit only through the north-side door of the Luther College Pool building, near the Regents Center parking lot on lower campus by the athletic fields. Due to ongoing major construction at Luther, only one bathroom will be available, and there will be no locker room access. Due to the unexpected closure this season, unused "punches" 2025 Punch Passes will be honored in 2026 Pool Season.
