Get Up and Go: Girls Cross Country Season Preview

DECORAH — The Decorah Girls Cross Country team wins the sunrise award for their early morning dedication, starting practice at 6:30 a.m. most mornings. The team started official practices on Monday, August 11, and they've been going strong ever since: logging miles, running repeat 400s and even dancing their way through one rainy morning practice. And while their official start was last week, most students-athletes were running all summer. Coach Cristy Nimrod is looking forward to the season: "I'm excited to see how their hard work during summer training translates into performance this season. Although it will be a different season without a conference, we still have several meets to compete against great competition." And all true competitors love to compete against the best competition. All top-notch competitors know that great competition and intense challenges raises the level of performance for everyone. The team will start with one such challenge next week when they start their season in Waverly for the Early Bird meet. The following week, they're in Cedar Falls. This year, the team is led by six seniors and 16 juniors. In addition, the team returns 14 sophomores and welcomes seven freshmen.
