New Deer Tag Now Available for Disabled Veterans

DES MOINES, Iowa —The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced the creation of a new deer hunting license option for Iowa's disabled veterans. Signed into law during the most recent Iowa legislative session, the new regulation provides one additional any sex deer tag for use during any established firearm season. The fee for the tag is $33. To qualify, hunters must: Be an Iowa resident. Have served on federal active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces. Have a service-connected disability verified by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Veterans applying for the tag will need to submit documentation, including a DD214 or higher, proof of their disability rating, and a Hunter Safety Certificate (if not already on file). The application can be completed online through the DNR's website at www.iowadnr.gov. Once processed, licenses may be purchased online or at any authorized vendor. The new tag is being offered in conjunction with the Lifetime Fur Harvester License and the Lifetime Hunting and Fishing License for disabled veterans. The DNR has combined these applications into one form, simplifying the process. Importantly, veterans who have already filed a service-related disability application with the DNR do not need to reapply to qualify for this new license.
