Tiny Tots Health Initiative Expansion to Iowa to Improve Pediatric Health Literacy

DECORAH — Tiny Tots Health Initiative, a student-founded nonprofit dedicated to improving pediatric health literacy in low-income communities, is expanding its reach to Iowa. The initiative provides free health education materials such as illustrated cards, e-books and hygiene kits to children and families through local clinics, schools and community centers. Founded in 2019 by Stanford University student Fadie Arabo, Tiny Tots began as a local effort in Detroit. Since then, it has grown to serve families in more than 10 states, including California, Arizona and Missouri. The organization is now working to establish partnerships in underserved Iowa communities. "Health literacy starts young," Arabo said. "We believe every child—regardless of income—deserves access to basic, culturally relevant health information." Tiny Tots recently launched its Healthy Box Initiative, distributing kits that include toothbrushes, floss and age-appropriate health cards. It also runs Book Check-Ups, a literacy program where children receive free books at clinic visits and discuss them with providers to earn prizes. Clinics or schools in Winneshiek County or surrounding areas interested in partnering with Tiny Tots are encouraged to reach out. The organization also welcomes students and community members who want to volunteer in support of child health and literacy.
