Decorah JV Girls Tennis Shines in Cedar Falls Triangular

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Six members of the Decorah Girls Tennis Team made the trip to Cedar Falls on Thursday, August 28, for a triangular meet featuring Decorah, Cedar Falls, Waterloo Columbus, and Union. The day proved to be both competitive and rewarding, offering the Vikings plenty of match play and valuable experience in a setting focused on development. When all was said and done, Decorah came out on top, winning the triangular with strong performances across the board. The Vikings found success across the board in singles play. At #1 singles, Myla Leitz dominated her bracket, finishing 3-0 and earning first place. Her consistent play provided momentum as she looks ahead to competing at the Conference Tournament this weekend. Following suit, Alynne Brandel went a flawless 3-0 at #2 singles, also securing a first-place finish. At #3 singles, Isis Timm showed grit and determination, rallying from a 1-4 deficit in her opening match to win 6-4. Timm went on to sweep the day 3-0, picking up another first-place medal for the Vikings. At #4 singles, Ava Burreson battled through a tough draw, earning a strong win over Union to finish 1-2. Freshman Sofia Hageman was relentless at #5 singles, going 3-0 and adding another first-place medal to Decorah's tally. Fellow freshman Hanna Lensch competed at #6 singles and, despite an 0-3 record, impressed with steady improvement and resilience throughout the day. Doubles action brought more highlights for Decorah. The #1 team of Leitz and Brandel proved to be a dynamic duo, going undefeated at 3-0 and capturing first place. Their success builds valuable chemistry heading into this weekend's Conference Tournament. At #2 doubles, Timm and Burreson finished 2-1, narrowly missing the podium due to a tie-break based on games won. Rounding out the lineup, freshmen Hageman and Lensch fought hard at #3 doubles, finishing 1-2 but collecting enough games to earn an impressive second-place finish. Coach Amanda Huinker praised the JV squad for their efforts and the atmosphere of the day: "This was such a fun event for our team. It's not often that the JV gets an entire day centered just on them, so it was great to see the girls get so many matches and really settle into their games. The amount of playing time was huge for their growth, and the team spirit and camaraderie that came out of the day made it even more special."
