Final Osborne Heritage Days Set for Oct. 11–12 at Pioneer Village

CLAYTON COUNTY, Iowa— Clayton County Conservation will celebrate its 50th anniversary with the final Osborne Heritage Days on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 11–12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at Osborne Park's Pioneer Village, located five miles south of Elkader on Highway 13. The event will showcase more than 20 demonstrations of pioneer-era crafts and skills, including spinning, basketry, soap making, candle making, printing press work, and woodcrafts. Visitors can also enjoy traditional foods such as kettle corn, fresh baked goods, jerky, homemade root beer, and samples of buffalo stew. A farmers market will feature pumpkins, apples, honey, maple syrup, sorghum, preserves, horseradish, and more. Lunch options include sandwiches, barbecues, pork on a stick, and smoked turkey legs. Entertainment will include Gary Froiland's One-Man Band and storyteller Pat Coffie on Saturday. Sunday activities feature a pioneer church service, music by the Andregg Family Band, pumpkin contests, an auction, and the 25th Annual Iowa Championship Buffalo Chip Throwing Contest. A kiddie train and additional demonstrations will also be offered. All demonstrations and events are free. Contest participants are sought for the pumpkin contests and the Buffalo Chip Throw.
