Johanna Bergan Enters Race for Decorah City Council

Be the reason future generations know what mattered in Decorah. Fund Decorah News today. DECORAH — Johanna Bergan has announced her candidacy for the Ward 3 Decorah City Council seat. Bergan, a lifelong resident of Winneshiek County, said she is committed to offering leadership and service to help ensure Decorah remains "a place to engage, a place to belong, and a place to thrive for all." She said her decision to run is an opportunity to use her skills, expertise and passion to help Decorah sustain a strong future. One way she measures success, Bergan said, is seeing her children and their peers view Decorah as a viable place to live and work in the future. Bergan previously served on the Decorah City Council from 2018 to 2020 and currently serves on the city's Planning and Zoning Commission. She has been recognized as a Certified Elected Municipal Official by the Iowa League of Cities. She is employed by the University of Connecticut School of Social Work's Innovations Institute, where she leads capacity-building efforts with state and county governments on system transformation, governance structures, and policy and finance reform in child-serving systems. She is also pursuing graduate studies at the University of Connecticut School of Public Policy with a focus on leadership in nonprofit and public administration management.
