Decorah Public Library Introduces Comics Plus Digital Resource

DECORAH — The Decorah Public Library has announced a new partnership with Comics Plus, a digital resource that provides free access to a large catalog of comics, graphic novels and manga from major and independent publishers. The resource offers three separate catalogs tailored for children and emergent readers, teens and young adults, and adults. All will be available to any Decorah Public Library cardholder. Comics Plus features no hold or wait times and allows unlimited checkouts, ensuring immediate access for readers. "Graphic novels are one of the most popular genres of books at the library," said Sophie Nall, children's and young adult librarian. "Comics Plus will be a huge expansion of our selection of those materials and will provide instant access from anywhere our readers are." Library staff said the new resource supports the library's mission to provide free access to popular books for all readers while keeping pace with trends in graphic novel publishing. Comics and graphic novels have been shown to engage even reluctant readers, while manga—a Japanese style of comic—has become especially popular with teens and young adults. Because translating, importing and printing international works can be costly, digital platforms like Comics Plus have allowed the format to flourish among U.S. readers. Library users can access Comics Plus through the Decorah Public Library's online catalog or the Comics Plus app. Access requires a library card number and a 10-digit PIN.
