Iowa Auditor of State Office Receives Third Consecutive Top Rating in Peer Review

DES MOINES — The Iowa Auditor of State Office has received the highest possible rating of "pass" following an independent, external review by the National State Auditors Association (NSAA) Peer Review Program for the period July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025. This is the third consecutive top rating from the NSAA since State Auditor Rob Sand took office in 2019. "This rating reflects the hard work, professionalism, and integrity of our entire team," said Sand. "I'm especially proud of the staff for excelling amid a nationwide shortage of auditors and accountants, and despite limits placed on them by the legislature." The peer review, conducted in accordance with Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards and recognized by the U.S. Government Accountability Office, evaluates the internal controls of state audit systems to ensure they operate effectively and meet professional standards. It is conducted every three years, promoting transparency and accountability in state governments. Audit organizations can receive a rating of pass, pass with deficiencies, or fail.
