NEICAC to Start Taking Limited Applications for LIHEAP on Oct. 1

NOTHEAST IOWA — Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation (NEICAC) will start taking limited applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) on October 1, 2025. Households that can apply starting October 1, 2025, must have one of the following conditions: A member that is 60 years old or older. A member that is disabled. A written disconnection notice. A heating or electricity source that is currently disconnected. All other households must wait until November 1 st to apply. LIHEAP customers will need to provide the following when applying for LIHEAP: The social security number of each household member, regardless of age, must be provided for that household member to be eligible. At least one household member must provide a social security number documentation for the household itself to be eligible. A copy of their most recent heating and electric bill. Documentation of gross income for everyone living in the home for the previous 30 calendar days, the most recent 12 months or for the previous calendar year. Eligibility for participation is established according to the following federal income guidelines: HOUSEHOLD INCOME MAXIMUMS (200% OF POVERTY) Household Size Annual Gross Income 1 $31,300 2 $42,300 3 $53,300 4 $64,300 5 $75,300 6 $86,300 7 $97,300 8 $108,300 *For households with more than eight (8) members, add $11,000 annually for each additional member LIHEAP is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services through the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, Community Access Division and Eligibility Division, Community Action Agencies Unit, and has been established to help qualifying low-income Iowa homeowners and renters pay for a portion of their primary heating costs. This program is not designed to pay a household's total energy costs. The program will provide supplemental assistance based on several factors. Those factors include total household income, household size, dwelling type, and type of heating fuel, among others. All low-income Northeast Iowans are encouraged to apply, including senior citizens and individuals with disabilities. Households burning wood or where heating is included as part of the rent may also be eligible for assistance. Your local Northeast Iowa Community Action Family Services Office is open by appointment.
