More Than 450 FFA Members Participate in Tri-State Ag & Dairy Expo

CALMAR, Iowa — More than 450 FFA members from 41 Iowa and Minnesota high schools participated in the annual Tri-State Ag and Dairy Expo on Thursday, Sept. 11, at Iowa's Dairy Center in Calmar. The expo featured dairy judging and dairy products contests where students enhanced their evaluation skills on dairy cattle and products. North Fayette Valley High School FFA was named the champion dairy judging team. Team members were Brock Soppe, Lily Holthaus, Lila Moore and Kyson Moss. Alison Schulte of Maquoketa Valley High School FFA was the high-scoring individual in the contest with 233 of 250 points. MFL MarMac FFA topped the non-reasons dairy judging contest. The team included Grace Palas, Adrianna Schoulte, Chesney Vorwalk and Ayla Ruff. Emery Feckers of Dike-New Hartford was the high-scoring individual in the non-reasons contest. Postville FFA was the champion dairy products judging team. Team members were Lauren White, Nayeli Palafox-Schultz and Isabelle White. Taytem Snedden of Beckman Catholic FFA was the high-scoring individual in the dairy products contest. In addition to the contests, the expo offered educational sessions on agriculture topics, including dairy feeds and forages, developing oral reasons, and a tour of the Dairy Center facilities. Northeast Iowa Community College dairy science and agriculture students helped prepare cattle for the judging contests. Dylan Liu of Iowa State University's Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition assisted with the dairy products contest.
