Northeast Iowa Indivisible Organizes Second "No Kings Day" Event

DECORAH — A local group affiliated with the national Indivisible movement is organizing a "No Kings Day" event in Decorah on Saturday, Oct. 18, as part of a coordinated series of rallies taking place across the country. The Decorah event will begin at noon at the Leif Erikson Bridge (College Drive bridge) with the weekly "Bridge Brigade." Participants will then walk peacefully to the Winneshiek County Courthouse, where a one-hour rally is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Attendees with mobility concerns may go directly to the courthouse around 12:45 p.m. The rally will feature several speakers and live music from 1–2 p.m., as well as informational tables on topics such as voter registration, immigration issues, and civic engagement. Organizers say the event is open to all community members, regardless of political affiliation. According to Indivisible, No Kings Day includes more than 2,200 similar events nationwide, with dozens planned in Iowa. More information and a map of events are available at nokings.org. Event organizers describe the rallies as an opportunity "to encourage Americans to use their First Amendment rights to protest actions by the current administration that they believe undermine the U.S. Constitution." They cited concerns including immigration enforcement, the deployment of National Guard troops in cities, and changes to federal programs. Organizers emphasized that the event is intended to be peaceful. "A core principle behind No Kings Day is a commitment to nonviolent action," they said.
