Driver Arrested on Drug Paraphernalia Charge Following Crash in Calmar

Without local news, all we have are rumors. Keep facts alive — give now. The following car accident was reported by The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday, October 8. On October 4 at 8:10 p.m., Amber Baker, 20, of Calmar, Iowa was traveling westbound on Henry St in Calmar. Jada Connell, 21, of Monona, Iowa was traveling Southbound on Maryville St. Baker stopped at the stop sign before crossing Maryville St., entering the roadway before it was clear to do so. Connell struck Baker's vehicle on the passenger side, and the curtain airbags were deployed as a result of the collision. Connell's vehicle sustained minor front end damage. Following the accident, Conell shared that she had a vehicle tracker through her insurance company, which showed her speed to be approximately 20-25 mph. Both vehicles came to rest in the diesel parking lot of Kwik Star. Medical personnel arrived on scene and checked on both drivers. Connell went to the hospital by private vehicle. Baker was later transported by law enforcement to the WinMed Emergency Room. As a result of the collision, Amber Baker was cited for fail to obey stop sign and yield right of way. Baker was also arrested and transported to the Winneshiek County Jail for possession of drug paraphernalia. According to the official criminal complaint obtained by Decorahnews.com, the charges stem from a discovery made while investigating the accident. During the investigation, a deputy detected the odor of marijuana coming from Baker's vehicle. A search revealed several items of drug paraphernalia, including "grinders containing a green leafy substance, used glass bongs, glass pipes, smoked marijuana cigarettes and additional loose marijuana."
