Decorah Breaks Ground on New Athletic Complex

DECORAH — City and community leaders gathered Thursday at 1780 Old Stage Road as the City of Decorah and Decorah Parks and Recreation broke ground on the new Decorah Athletic Complex, a long-anticipated facility officials said will serve local families and athletes for generations. The complex will feature three baseball fields, eight pickleball courts and a water quality initiative area with native grasses and filtration systems. The site will also connect to the city's existing dog park and trail network, creating what officials described as "a lot of different opportunities" for families and visitors. Mayor Lorraine Borowski said she was "thrilled that this day has come," noting the city has been working with the property "for years and years." "This is such a beautiful site, and now to have our athletic complex up and ready to go is really exciting," Borowski said. City representatives and members of the fundraising committee praised community support for the project, which received more than $1 million in private donations. They also thanked Winneshiek County, ISG—the project's design team—and the contractors beginning work at the site. Officials called the groundbreaking "an exciting waypoint in this journey" and said the complex will be "state of the art" and "greatly appreciated in the community for generations to come."
