Dear Editor, On Tuesday, November 4, our community will vote on a proposed $13 million bond referendum for the South Winneshiek Community School District. If it's approved, the district will renovate and expand our existing high school to approximately 81,610 square feet. This project would improve the learning environment, safety and career readiness for South Winn. students. While our high school has served generations of students, there are significant facility needs we must address soon to ensure we can continue to deliver an exceptional educational experience. Investing in this project now will help prevent higher costs in the future, support the district's long-term stability, and ensure that our facilities reflect the high-quality education our community expects for its students. Specifically, the planned improvements will improve safety and security, enhance energy efficiency, and provide modern spaces conducive to 21st century learning and technology. Students also will have access to more gym space for multiple contests and practices to occur simultaneously, allowing them to get home earlier on school nights. This project is about more than a building—it's about providing today's students and future generations with safe, modern spaces to learn, grow, and succeed close to home. On behalf of the School Board, I want to extend our gratitude to everyone who has shared thoughtful questions, offered feedback, and stayed involved throughout this important process.
