Decorah Girls Swim Team Finishes Second at North Central Iowa Conference Meet

GRINELL, Iowa — The Decorah girls swim and dive team left the competition in the waves following their converence performance at the 2025 North Central Iowa Swim & Dive Conference Meet on Thursday, October 23, finishing second overall and posting near-perfect day for personal records " The girls had a fantastic day in the pool," said Coach Allie Schultz. "I'm incredibly proud of each of them. They brought home a second-place finish at conference and achieved 98% personal best times—a remarkable accomplishment and something they should all be very proud of." That 98% personal best rate is no miracle, it reflects deep consistency in starts, turns, and relay exchanges and months of training and preparation that left the team performing at its peak. Decorah's relay teams had a number of standout performances. The 200-yard medley relay team of Isabella Sailor, Karly Alstad, Payge Webb and Elizabeth Bucksa, captured first place in 1:55.01. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Bucksa, Lauren Luzum, Webb and Jenna Schissel also earned a strong second-place finish in 3:48.10. Individual highlights for DHS included Elizabeth Bucksa, who won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:21.08, Payge Webb, who finished first in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:00.95, Jenna Schissel, who placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:13.79, Karly Alstad, second in 1:14.24, and Naomi Kutz, ninth in 1:20.13. Sophie Shimek finished ninth in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:17.78. The Vikings' combined energy across relays and individual events helped them secure 313 points, finishing second behind Boone High School, which scored 325.
