Girls Bowling Scores Decisive Victory Over Charles City

It was a battle of undefeated teams, with the Vikings coming out on top with a decisive victory. The Vikings tallied 2,828 points to Charles City's 2,145. Leading the Vikings through the first series of matches were seniors Karlie Einck (414 total pins) and Jasera Tweten (361 total pins). Not far behind Tweten was junior Hayley Baker (360 total pins). Coach Keith Bruening noted this was one of the biggest matches in 11 years, and that the Comets are a huge rival, making it a "big match, and really fun to win." It's one step at a time for Bruening and his team, and while the win was a big one, it's only one step toward the first goal. "State is important, but our first goal is to win conference," he said. This match marked a big step in the right direction. Bruening added that this has been a "fun year to coach." Perhaps it was the large crowd of spectators, or perhaps it was the Vikings themselves, but according to Bruening, "[The Comets] were totally psyched out, and never really got into the match." "And the girls just performed great," he said. "It was a total team performance." The Vikings return to the lanes when they travel to Oelwein on Friday, Jan. 9, to face off against the Huskies.
