Happy Monday! Welcome to Monday High-Five -- your quick preview to what's happening around Decorah this week. Note: It's Decorah Restaurant Week! Here are some other things to keep in mind this week: 1. Restaurant Week Kicks Off: Jan. 26 - Feb. 1Hosted by the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce, Decorah Restaurant Week spotlights local eateries with special menus and deals. Participating restaurants are offering everything from wagyu ribeyes and house‑made dips to creative coffee specials and loaded fries, plus events like a spirit‑free cocktail class and themed noodle nights. 2. Broomball Fun on the Ice - Jan. 26Bundle up and head over to Carl Selland Park this week for broomball, an outdoor winter favorite. Players of all levels are welcome to show up with their brooms and boots for spirited games on the frozen surface near Pulpit Rock Brewing Co. with no experience necessary. 3. Scandinavian Fine Handcraft Open House - Jan. 27The Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum hosts a free open house showcasing student work from Luther College's Scandinavian Fine Handcraft course. Attendees can watch demonstrations in traditional woodworking and other Nordic crafts, explore projects created during January Term, and enjoy refreshments in the Vesterheim Commons. 4. Preschool Open House at St. Benedict - Jan. 28Families interested in early childhood education can visit St. Benedict School for an Open House event. Guests will get a tour of classrooms, meet teachers and leadership, and learn more about what makes the school special. Prospective families can also complete an Intent to Enroll form for the 2026-27 preschool year during the visit. 5. A Medieval Feast Returns - Feb. 1Decorah High School's 35th Annual Madrigal Dinner brings music, merriment, and a taste of 16th‑century England to life, complete with period performances and a feast that's as much theatre as dinner. Audience members are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early.
