Iowa State University Extension & Outreach -Winneshiek County Extension Council Announces Changes

WINNESHIEK COUNTY, Iowa — The Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Winneshiek County Council has announced a leadership change as longtime council member Blake Courtney steps down after moving outside Winneshiek County. Courtney, elected to the council in 2020, served as an active member for several years. He works at Viking State Bank in Decorah and was encouraged to run by the council's nominating committee. With a long history in 4-H and Extension programs, he said the role was a natural fit. "It was something I understood and was passionate about," Courtney said. The Extension Council was also the first community committee he joined after returning to the area, allowing him to reconnect with local efforts rooted in his values. During his tenure, Courtney contributed to several initiatives, including progress on the county's building purchase and support for professional growth among Extension staff. He said he is proud of the council's accomplishments and the momentum built during his service. To complete the remainder of Courtney's term, the council appointed Isaac Luzum, also of Viking State Bank. Luzum brings strong ties to Extension through years of involvement in 4-H. He said giving back to a program that helped shape his life is a priority. After moving back to the area, Luzum was eager to reengage with community leadership. "Being involved is an important part of giving back," he said. Both Courtney and Luzum share a belief in the mission of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach: strengthening communities through education, youth development and connection.
