Bruening Rock Products Recognizes Third-Quarter "Rock Solid Students" at Decorah High School

DECORAH — Decorah High School has announced the third-quarter recipients of the "Rock Solid Student" Award, generously sponsored by Bruening Rock Products. This quarterly award recognizes one student from each grade level, grades 9-12, who demonstrates academic achievement or improvement, a strong work ethic, positive character and integrity. Faculty members nominate students, and DHS office staff review submissions to select recipients each quarter. As part of the program, Bruening Rock Products has partnered with LetterWerks to create permanent plaques for each grade level, updated quarterly with engraved nameplates. Each honoree also receives a certificate and recognition in the Viking Newsletter. Quarter 3 "Rock Solid Student" honorees: Ninth grade: Sophie Adams. "Sophie is the first to acknowledge others; she is kind, considerate and hardworking," said Ms. DeJong. Mr. Hirka added that Sophie has consistently "set the tone" for her class and has been "one of the most consistently positive and leader-like students" he has taught. 10th grade: Bentley Smith. "Bentley has been very good about getting his work turned in on time, and he does quality work," said Ms. Bruvold, noting that he often volunteers in class and participates actively in discussions while maintaining a friendly attitude. 11th grade: Tyler Shaw. "Tyler always has a positive attitude and comes to class ready to work every day," said Mr. Carlson, adding that Tyler contributes to discussions, helps others and consistently demonstrates respect and honesty. 12th grade: Madysen Lippe. "Mady is one of the kindest and most responsible people in her class," said Ms. Kauffman, noting that she works hard, communicates clearly, takes responsibility and "sets a quiet but strong example of what we want all our students to be." Decorah High School thanks Bruening Rock Products for its continued support of student achievement through the "Rock Solid Student" Award and congratulates Sophie Adams, Bentley Smith, Tyler Shaw and Madysen Lippe on this well-deserved recognition.
