Decorah to Host Third NO KINGS Rally March 28

Decorah, Iowa — The third nationwide "NO KINGS" protest events are scheduled across the country on Saturday, March 28, including in Decorah. Organizers are hoping for more than 12 million participants nationwide. The first such event, on June 14 of last year, attracted an estimated five million nonviolent, peaceful participants, followed by the second event in October, which drew an estimated seven million. Local NO KINGS organizers, with Northeast Iowa Indivisible, are aiming to draw at least 2,000 people marching in downtown Decorah. The event is scheduled to start at noon at the intersection of East Water Street and Riverside Avenue (north side of Water Street) and will march westward through downtown. Marchers will continue on Water Street to College Drive and then convene at Carl Selland Park, at the corner of Fifth Avenue and College Drive. The event will conclude with short speeches and music. "We are very excited to participate again in this third national day of organized protests against the policies and actions of an administration that obviously has no regard for national and international law, nor the welfare of millions of ordinary Americans," said Cheryl Weisler, one of the organizers. "All Americans have a duty to exercise their First Amendment rights by standing up to these threats to our democracy, our citizenship, and life, liberty and the rule of law." Local organizers obtained the proper parade permit to hold the event, in conjunction with 3,000 similar rallies across the country. Anyone who wants to participate is encouraged to do so and bring their own signs. There will also be signs available. "This third NO KINGS event, as previously, is not affiliated with any one political party," said Tim Wagner, one of the organizers. "It is for anyone, regardless of who you are, to show your support for America's 250-year-old experiment with democracy. Come on out, be part of something big and part of history."
