A New Era Begins for Decorah Girls Soccer Under Teo Jubé

DECORAH — The Decorah girls soccer team has more than 55 players on the 2026 roster, possibly the most in program history. They also have a new head coach, Teo Jubé, who is no stranger to running large practices with players of all ages and experience levels. He has served as director of the Decorah United Soccer Club (DUSC) since 2019. For Jubé, his soccer methodology revolves around playing and competing: quick touches, good decisions, and crisp passes and receptions. For the high school team, the focus this year is on eight core values: responsibility, cooperation, motivation, communication, creativity, empathy, confidence and respect. "These core values are spread out through our season's mesocycle," Jubé said, "which we call terms. We have four terms in total, with two core values included in each term." This systematic breakdown allows the team to focus on two values at a time while also emphasizing two guiding slogans: compete and be brave. "These two slogans are non-negotiable during our training sessions and games," Jubé said. "Every player needs to bring these every time they step on a soccer field, either for practice or for games. We will not be able to achieve our goals without competitiveness and bravery." Senior midfielder Ana Simon echoed the sentiment. "Areas we're focusing on are fighting for everything and being confident." Confidence and bravery, she said, are two sides of the same coin. Simon said she is also looking forward to spending time with her teammates. "I'm looking forward to spending time with such a great team and group of seniors." Seniors include Elsa Christman, Clara Hjelle, Jessalyn Lozano, Nora Lesmeister, Kyra O'Hara and Allisson Ortiz. The team also returns several letterwinners from last year, including sophomores Liv Anderson, Adeline Bollinger, Leah Garcia-Prats and Taylor Sloan-Dahl, and juniors Marley Harmening, Regine Hougen and Vivian Searcy. Clara Hjelle agreed with Simon about the team atmosphere. "As a senior I am excited for the season mainly for the girls, because the team atmosphere is so positive and fun. It makes coming to practice really enjoyable." While the players are enjoying practices, they remain focused on competition. "Our goal for this season is to compete head-to-head with any opponent we play," Jubé said. "Regardless of previous history, rivalry or team level, we must step onto every field we play on—at practice or in games, in Decorah or away—with every single player sharing the same mentality: compete and be brave." The girls start their season Thursday, April 2, with a home match against Dubuque Hempstead.
