Turn the Page This April: Decorah Library's Book Groups Are Back

Our Driftless region deserves more than postcards — it deserves a watchdog. Be that support. DECORAH — Decorah Public Library staff will host five book discussions in April, across genres including literary fiction, history, and speculative works. All groups are open to the public, and newcomers are welcome. Multiple copies are provided by the Friends of Decorah Public Library. Happy Hour Book Group – 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, at Pulpit Rock Brewing Co. Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy follows a small group on a remote island confronting isolation, nature, and their pasts, exploring survival and human connection. History Book Group – 3 p.m. Thursday, April 16, on the library's second floor. The CIA Book Club by Charlie English tells how literature became a tool of resistance and cultural exchange during the Cold War. Friday Book Group – 2 p.m. Friday, April 17, on the library's second floor. The Lies They Told by Ellen Marie Wiseman is a historical novel about a young woman facing secrets and betrayal after war, exploring trauma and resilience. Speculative Short Fiction Group – 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, via Zoom. Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh reimagines folklore with a forest guardian and a visiting scholar, exploring identity, belonging, and the tension between wildness and human connection. Speculative Fiction Book Group – 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, via the same Zoom link. A Sorceress Comes to Call by T. Kingfisher is a darkly imaginative fantasy about a young woman and her mother arriving at a country estate, bringing secrets, unsettling magic, and challenges to power.
