Cresco's Caleb Kammerer Part of Wartburg Documentary Team

WAVERLY — Caleb Kammerer is part of a team of students from Wartburg College's Department of Journalism and Communication who will premiere their documentary, "More Than a Team: A Knight's Legacy," Thursday, April 9, at 2:30 p.m. in Neumann Auditorium. The event, held in conjunction with the college's RICE Day celebration, is free and open to the public. Those unable to attend can watch live on Knight Vision, the college's livestreaming network. Kammerer, of Cresco, served as the project's head videographer, editor and writer. The documentary traces 90 years of Wartburg athletics, beginning with the introduction of the Knight mascot. It explores the program's growth, the challenges of building a culture that values success in the classroom and on the field, and what it truly means to be a Knight. Featured interviews include Jim Miller, former men's wrestling coach; Monica Severson, former coach and associate athletic director; and Rewa Chababo, a current women's wrestler, among others. Topics covered include Wartburg's rivalry with Luther College in Decorah, the impact of Title IX on women's sports, and the influence of coaches and students on one another. "It's only important to talk about the Knights if you understand what it means to be a Knight," said Fred Waldstein, a former Wartburg basketball player and professor. "It's about your commitment to a community and a community being committed to you. The Knight is emblematic of that kind of relationship and is very important to the identity of graduates."
