Decorah Boys Kick Their Way Past Waverly-Shell Rock 5-1 in Home Opener

DECORAH — Tuesday, April 7, the Decorah boys soccer team hosted rival Waverly-Shell Rock (WSR) for the first home match of the year. After one half of play, Decorah led 2-0, which is considered the scariest score in soccer—scary because it often creates a false sense of security. However, that score didn't last long, as the boys buried three more second half goals in the back of the net, winning the match 5-1. Senior forward Ian Giddings led the way with two goals. Seniors Tanner Caddell, Will Larson, and Noah Milburn added one goal each. The Go-Hawks, for their part, made a few runs toward the goal—and even scored one—but never really posed a threat, as Decorah maintained possession for most of the match. The win evens up the team's early season record to 1-1. Last week, the team dropped one to a feisty Cedar Falls team (0-2), but bounced back with the win at home. The boys travel to Dubuque Senior on Thursday, April 9, and to the Hudson Classic in Hudson, Iowa, on Saturday, April 11. Next week, they travel to Independence before hosting their second home match of the year against Postville. The game against Postville is schedule for next Tuesday, April 14.
