St. Benedict Students Advance to State National History Day Competition

DECORAH — Twenty students from St. Benedict School have qualified for the state-level National History Day in Iowa competition, continuing the school's strong participation in the annual academic program. The students, representing grades 6-8, will compete Monday, April 27, at Iowa State University in Ames after advancing through regional competition. National History Day is a nationwide program that encourages students to conduct original historical research and present their findings through exhibits, performances, documentaries, papers or websites. At St. Benedict, the program is led by middle school social studies teacher Mrs. Lien. Students advancing to the state contest include: Maya Gronna, Nina Coppola, Jodi Fullhart, Leo Harless, Judah Mutsune, Grady Huinker, Lydia Peterson, Hannah Weigle, Audrey Searcy, Elsey Gavle, Isaiah Harman, Kolton Drahn, Jack Gullekson, Henry Hahn, Leo Johnson, Trevor Round, Claire Elsbernd, Lydia Dahl, Gabe Weigle and Parker Friederick. To help support the students' trip and continued participation in the program, a Give Back Day fundraiser will be held Wednesday at Scooter's Coffee, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the group.
